Avadares March Challenge

It's been said that all good things must end.  Well, the Avadares blog site is closing down before  the end of this month.  I am happy to say that I have been on the DT since the beginning.  I will miss the lovely ladies who are my fellow teamies.  Sara has been nice enough to supply us with this one last digi stamp for this challenge.
I cut the card base with my Silhouette Cameo.  Two die cuts are from Spellbinders Marvelous Squares.  The dp is probably 8 years old and is from my scraps pile.  I no longer remember the maker.  I edged the pieces with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and colored the image with Copic markers.  The flower is one I made a few weeks ago using used dryer sheets and distress stain.  The brad came from my box of many brads and things.  I used a Stampin' Up sentiment.

DS4J Birthdays Are Fun

Happy First Birthday, DS4J!  Go on over to DS4J and see all the fabulous birthday cards the Design Team has created.  Then check out all the new images Margy has for you in the DS4J store.  For my card, I chose to use "Cupcakes Galore."

I used Copic markers to color the image.  The background pink is from core'dinations.  I used one of the A2 Spellbinders dies to cut the image layer.

I'm entering this card in the following challenges: Anything Goes Girl's Birthday (must use pink) - Birthday - Birthday - Anything Goes Anything Goes Anything Goes

Tuesday Throwdown Challenge 136

Morning Peeps!  It's Tuesday again and time for another great challenge at Tuesday Throwdown.  The theme of this week's challenge is "You're On My Mind."  Our sponsor for this week is Digital Delights by Louby Lou.  Check out the great digis on the site, some serious, some fun.
For my card, I chose the uncolored image Luvvy Bear.  I colored it with Copics.  While I chose to use red and a  heart, it is not necessarily just for Valentine's Day which has already passed.  It can by used at any time of the year to show love and the fact that you are thinking of the person.  I send my cards to OWH so it is appropriate at any time.

I inked the edges of the card base with Barn Door distress ink.  I made a background using the faux leather technique and inked it with Barn Door again.  I then covered the inked tape with clear embossing powder and heat set it.  You don't need to use any watermark stamp as the embossing powder melts into the tape.  The heart die is La Rue Heart from Memory Box.  The ribbon is from my stash, and is the sentiment is from Hero Arts.  I added Glossy Accent to the hearts on the bear and the flower.  I added gold Stickles to the bear's muzzle to give him a little sparkle.

The Outlawz - Feb. 26

The color combination for today's challenge at The Outlawz is red, white and blue.  The twist is to add shine.  While these are very patriotic colors, I decided to wait to do a patriotic card until closer to a holiday like Independence Day.  Instead, I chose to use this monster from Doodle Dragon, our sponsor for this month and some of my red, white and blue papers.

While it doen't show up in the picture, this is a window card.  I cut the large opening with Spellbinders Labels Twenty-Seven in the large red, white and blue dp.  Then I cut another white layer with Spellbinders Decorative Twenty-Seven die.  The  third layer down is the layer with the image which I colored with Copics.  I inked the edges of the cut out layers with distress ink and layered them all on a card base.  I cut several circles out of the dp and popped them with foam tape.  The last thing I did was to add the shine for the twist.  For that, I put Glossy Accents on each of the stars in the centers of the circles.

Spring is in the Air

I know, it's just barely past Valentine's Day, but I am really looking forward to spring.  With spring, come butterflies.  So, I chose this beautiful image from Margy at DigiStamps for Joy for this card.  It's called New Beginnings, very apropo for spring.

I used copics to color the image, cut it with Spellbinder Resplendent Rectangles die and used American Craft buttons.

The Outlawz - Feb. 19

Today's color combination for The Outlawz wass chosen by Ursula - green, pink and brass with a metal twist.

I used two Spellbinders dies for this - A2 Fancy Weave and Resplendent Rectangles.  The flowers are Prima with pearls from Want2Scrap in the center.  The metal piece is from Vintaj.  I didn't write it down and I don't remember the maker of the stamp.  It might be Autumn Leaves, but I can't be sure. The heart bling is from Queen & Co.

Challenges entered:

The theme is Glitz and Glam without Glitter

I used Shimmer Sheetz and a shiny brad for this card.

This challenge was a little more difficult - all white/cream, three layers.  Any embellishment also had to be white.  The only color allowed was in the sentiment.  I think I managed the requirements:
Layer 1 - card base
Layer 2 - embossed panel
Layer 3 - sentiment die cut panel
Layer 4 - ribbon
Sentiment - black

Tammy's Scrapin Corner Challenge #50

Debora at is our Guest Designer for this challenge at Tammy's Scrapin Corner.  Hop on over to her blog and check out her fantastic designs.  The challenge was to use this sketch.
And this is the card I made:
I could not get the scroll in the center.  I tried about four times and finally gave up.  So I went with my own design.
Our sponsor for this challenge is SK Digis and the image is Home Sweet Home.

OWH Sketch 160

I like this sketch.  I may just do a few more cards using it.

I used some Basic Grey scraps from some cards I made last weekend.  The stamp is from LaBlanche.  I colored it with my Copics.  The bling although it doesn't show well in the picture is rhinestones which I also colored with the same color as the flower.  Hero Arts made the sentiment stamp.

Use Washi tape

I did a very simple card to show off the Washi tape by My Mind's Eye.  A Spellbinders Butterfly, Want2Scrap pearls and the MME sentiment finished off the card.

This challenge was to make a card that shows somethng related to caffeine.  I chose to use my new Sweet & Sassy stamps with Cocoa the mouse hiding behind a coffee cup.  Some scraps from my scrap bin, my Copics and flowers that I have had for ages completed the card.

OWH VCMP #6 Wheels

Challenge #6  for the OWH VCMP for this weekend was to do things with wheels.  It was a real challenge because all I have with wheels on are the few vintage cars I bought about two years ago.  I pulled one out, the 1939 Ford Coupe.  I don't know whether or not there were blue cars then, but I guess if not, you will have to consider thast this coupe has been repainted.  I used OWH sketchB-25 turned on the side.

Saturday, February 16, 2013

This challenge was to use sketch #63 and make at least 6 cards using one sheet of dp and some cardstock.  I was able to make 6 using the printed paper, three sheets of 8.5 x 11 black cardstock and scraps of white and blue.  I used a Hero Arts sentiment stamp.

The theme for this challenge is Anything With Wings.  I think most people might think of birds when they hear this, but butterflies always come to mind for me.  I have quite a few butterfly stamps and about 4 punches and a couple sets of wafer thin dies.  For this card, I used Spellbinders Wonderful Wings dies

The the third challenge for Operation Write Home's weekend virtual card making party is to make a card using selective embossing.  I had purchased the Tim Holtz difuser plates when Stacey had them on sale, but never got around to using them.  This was a perfect chance.  I discovered I like them.

All Creatures Great and Small is the theme for this second challenge.  I used this cute elephant from Bugaboo Stamps and Sketch #157.

This is for the first card in the Operation Write Home virtual card making party for the weekend.  About a year ago, I bought the chevron stamp for a project I was going to make and never did.  This gave me the perfect opportunity to use it finally.  I decided to make an Any Hero card for this challenge.

Bonus Valentine

Shelly's Images is having a Bonus Valentine challenge for this month.  Shelly provided a free digi to those who wanted to enter the challenge.  This is what I came up with.

I used the heart with the keyhole.  I didn't use the key because I couldn't figure how to get it cut out right since I am  having issues with my Cameo right now.  Anyway, the key is not necessary because the sentiment says YOU have the key.  I used Recollections for my card base and embossed it with a Sizzix folder.  I fussy cut the heart and outlined it with 110 black Copic marker.  I colored the heart with Copics.  I used American Crafts foil paper to cut the flourish with a Sizzix die and also for the background for the sentiment.  The flower is from Prima and the heart brad is from my stash.  I used Rouge Liquid Pearls in the centers of the embossed hearts.

Side Step Card with Homemade Flower

I had some time to myself so I decided to try something I had not done before.  I had this pattern for a side step card and these homemade flowers so I thought I would make something with them.

I used a piece of double sided cardstock from American Crafts that I have had for well over a year.  I used Spellbinders Resplendent Rectangles for the die cuts.  The image, Hibiscus 001,  is from DigiStamps4Joy.  I colored the image with Copic Markers.  For the handmade flower, I used some pieces from my scrap pile.  The brad is old, also from my stash.  The sentiment came from the dollar bin at Michaels.
I am entering this in the following challenges: - Letter B (birthday card) - handmade embellishments (flower)

Tuesday Throwdown - 2/12

Good morning.  I'm so glad you could find you way over here today.  Tuesday Throwdown has a great challenge for this time.  Our fantastic sponsor is The Cutting Cafe.  Check out their store for their stamps plus some other crafty materials.  I used the cuckoo clock from the It's About That Time stamp set, along with a sentiment from The Cutting Cafe.  The background paper is Bo Bunny.  I had two sheets, one with just the faint images of clocks and one with vividly colored clocks.  I but one of the dark clocks and popped it over the same image on the background.  The buttons are from Stampin Up.  A little Glossy Accents on the hearts and twine from WRMK completed the card.

The Outlawz Color Challenge - Feb. 12

For The Outlawz Color Challenge for today, I chose to do a center step card.  Guylou chose this neat color scheme.
I used the Under Bear image from our sponsor, Doodle Dragon Studios and colored it with Copic markers.  Then, I cut the image using Spellbinders scalloped circles die.
I used the Spellbinders die to cut the center step card.  The dp is from Heidi Grace Designs.  One side is the pinkish print and other side is the light blue.  The sentiment strip is the reverse side.  The sentiment stamp is from a Hero Arts set.  Since the twist was to use a heart, I used the heart doily from Michaels.  The blue rhinestones were from my stash.

Tammys Scrapin Corner Challenge #49

Morning peeps.  So happy to see you today.  I hope you will take some time and join the challenge at Tammy's Scrapin Corner.  Challenge #49 for Tammy's Scrapin Corner is to use homemade embellishments.  Our fabulous sponsor for this challenge is Eureka Stamps.  I used Flower Basket for my card.

It was a fun challenge. When I first read the DT assignment to make something homemade to use as an embelllishment, I was quite fearful that I could not come up with something.  I envisioned having to tell Tammy that I was going to sit this challenge out.  It took a couple of days for the light to dawn and I remembered that I was saving used dryer sheets for making flowers.  Duh!  So I pulled out a handful of them and spent a morning making flowers.  This was my favorite of the ones I made.
First I pulled out some of my Sizzix dies that had layered flowers on them.  I folded two dryer sheets in half making four layers.   For this flower, I used Flower Layers #3.  There are three flowers on the die.  Next I ran the sheets through the Big Shot.  This gave me four of each of size for a total of 12 layers of flowers.
Next I used Distress Stain on all 12 layers and set it aside to dry while I colored the image with Copic markers.  Once the image was colored I used Spellbinders Labels Twenty-Six to cut it out.  While it was still in the die, I sponged a little Mustard Seed distress ink around the edges.
I rummaged through my stash of things I have colored, dies I have cut and sentiments I have stamped.  I found the background that I had done some time ago, using alchol inks on photo paper.
When the flowers were dry, I put them together with a brad from my stash and then sprayed the fully constructed flower with a product I got as a freebie at a show I attended last month.  It's called Spray & Sparkle.  It needs a lot of ventilation.  I had to open the window of my craft room (it's mid-winter) to get the odor out.
The greenery is cut with a Martha Stewart punch.  All that was left was to stamp a sentiment with StazOn and put the card together.  The card base is from Stampin Up.
I hope you will join us at Tammy's Scrapin Corner for this challenge and maybe even make a flower from used dryer sheets.

DigiStamps4Joy Sunday Release 2/10

Hi Peeps!  Have you seen the new releases for this week over at DigiStamps4Joy store?  They are really neat.  Hop on over there and have a look.  For my card, I chose to use Help, I Missed.  It was so much fun to do.  Make sure you look at the challenge blog.  The DT outdid themselves with this challenge.

I used a combination of Bazzill and Recollection cardstock.  The yellow layer was embossed with one of my embossing folders from my large collection.  I fussy cut the image because I was having a problem getting it to cut with my Cameo.  I colored it with Copic markers and used foam tape to pop it up on the black "sky".  I drew the stars in with a silver metallic pen.  The sentiment is computer generated.

The Outlawz - February 5 - Sew What

I picked the color scheme for this challenge for this week's The Outlawz color challenge.   I had never tried real sewing on a project and thought what better time than the present.  My twist is to add sewing, either faux or real.  I had done a lot of faux sewing so I opted for real this time.  I made it harder than it needed to be because I wanted to use a decorative die cut.  I used a paper piecing template from SU for this.  I photocopied the template, then used temporary adhesive to adhere it to the tan cardstock and fussy cut it.  I then pierced the holes and removed the photocopy from the cardstock.  I used embroidery floss to stitch the holes.  It took quite a while because the holes were so close together.  But, I liked the effect of the tiny stitches.  I die cut an oval with a Sizzix die to back the flower digi.  I don't remember whose digi it is.  I colored the digi with Copics.  The textured paper is from a pack that I got some time ago.  It is quite a bit thicker than regular cardstock, but it has great texture to it.    The sentiment is a Hero Arts stamp and the bling is from my stash.  I used a SU die to cut the piece for the sentiment.  I popped the die cut with foam tape to give it even more dimension.  I still need to pull the machine out and sew with it now that I have done some hand stitching.
