Avadares December Challenge

For this Avadares challenge, I used the cute little mouse digi that Sara provided.  At first, I didn't see any connection with a mouse and a challenge for December.  December just makes me think of Christmas.  After a couple days of thinking about it, I remembered "The Night Before Christmas" and my idea was born.

Tuesday Throwdown

The challenge this week at Tuesday Throwdown is "Lots of Layers."  I made this card at the recent crop weekend.  It uses Bazzill Basics Huckleberry Pie paper.  The stamp is from SU, the flower is Petaloo and the brad was from my stash.  There are six layers of paper.  The flower makes the 7th.

The Stamping Boutique 11/26

The Challenge was It's All French to Me.  The DT was asked to use Tracy's third day of Christmas digi snowman for 3 French Hens.  I borrowed the background stamp from Marie to do this as I really didn't have anything with a French theme.  The stamp was from Just Rite.  I sponged red and blue distress ink on it and colored the laurel wreath with Copics.  I also used Copics on the snowman.  I cut the die with Spellbinders Scalloped Ovals.  The ribbon is from Michaels.

The Outlawz November 27 Color Challenge

I saw this card on a tutorial some time ago and printed it out.  Like most of the things I save, it got put aside until I was doing some organizing the other day.  Okay, time to use it or toss it.  So, I decided to finally make a card using the directions provided.
First I cut a piece of 12x12 pink cardstock to 5.5 by 11.  I scored it at 4.25 and 8.5 inches to make the folds.  I used the biggest of my Spellbinders Grand Labels Four and cut the short end. Then I cut a piece of Making Memories 8x8 Wedding paper and adhered it to the large panel on the front of the card.  From there, I cut three dies from the Spellbinders Bird Flourishes set and ahered them 2 to the front of the card and the larger one on the flap.  Back to Spellbinders for the tag, embellished with a little Worn Lipstick Distress Ink.  I stamped the Kaisercraft sentiment with Archival Jet Black ink and popped it with foam tape.
Here is the card completely closed:
And with the top flap open:

Dynamic Duos #29 (Faux Flower Soft)

This card kind of evolved piece by piece.  I was at a weekend crop and had taken a copy of the Dynamic Duo challenge with me.  I looked through my sketch notebook and found a sketch that had the curved piece of paper - not quite as curved as I make the snowbank - with a line of flowers along the curve.  It became the outline of my snowbank.  I borrowed the snowman stamp from one of the croppers and the snowflake die from another.  It is fun to work with 31 other croppers.  No matter what you need,  someone is willing to let you borrow it if you don't have it.
For this card, I cut the cardbase to 5.5 x 4.25 and added the black layer.  I tore a piece of white cardstock to be the snowbank and adhered it to the blue cardstock and adhered it to the black.   Then I stamped the snowman on the blue.  I also stamped the snowman on white, colored it and fussy cut it out.  The bird and the snowman's arms are only on the blue.  I popped him onto the image on the blue.  The saying is from the same stamp set as the snowman.  Once I got that far, it was looking a little too simple.  "Anyone got a snowflake die?"  The Cheery Lynn 4x4 snowflake die appeared in front of me.  I used a few of the snowflakes from the die in the sky.  It still looked like it needed something,   A little bling helped and I said "it is done."  When I got home, I decided it still needed something because the snow looked so blah.  I made some faux flower soft by rubbing two pieces of styrofoam together.  I rubbed Glossy Accents over the snowbank and applied the styrofoam.  At this point, I declared it finally finished.

The Outlawz Color Challenge 11/20

I picked up a piece of gold/yellow fabric at Joanne's and then decided how I was going to use it.  I decided to make the flower out of the piece of fabric.  I used Sookwang tape and adhered a piece of fabric to each side so the flowers would look the same on both sides.  Then I cut the flowers with Sizzix Flower Layers #4 and the green stem piece with Sizzix Decorative Accent with Flower and trimmed it to the size I wanted.  I put the flower together using a green brad from my stash.  I then stamped "Hi" onto a piece of the fabric that was left after I cut the flower and cut it with a Spellbinders die.  The card base is the bronze/brown in the inspiration folder with a layer of the green and then a layer of dp (from my scraps).  The dp has all three colors in it.

The Stamping Boutique 11-19

The challenge for this week at The Stamping Boutique is "fruit or trees."  Crystal sent this adorable snowman to reflect the 12 Days of Christmas song.  The first day's gift is a partridge in a pear tree.  The little guy's pear (fruit) and the pear tree (tree) fit the challenge.

Materials used:
SU Candlelight Christmas dp
Recollections Black cardstock
Neenah Classic Crest Solar White cardstock
Copic Markers
WRMK twine
SU sentiment from Winter Memories
Spellbinder die

Catch the Bug November Bingo Challenge

The challenge for Catch the Bug November Bingo is to use this bingo card:

I chose the brown, glitter/gloss/starts with b line.

The brown is obvious, the butt of the gun is covered with Glossy Accents and there are brads in the corners.  I also used the Bugaboo Friday Freebie from this past Friday.  He is colored with Copics. and there is a brown fiber wrapped around the middle.  I popped him because the middle where the fiber is was too lumpy for the image to lay flat.

Operation Write Home Stars & Stamps 11/14 MWT

Today's challenge at Stars & Stamps is to make Thank You cards for our heroes to send home to their family and friends!

I pulled out my bin of Basic Grey and found this piece of green dp.  I added green, yellow, white and brown from my scraps.  The stamp is from Studio G.  The ribbon is from my stash.  I used both Sizzix and Spellbinder dies.

Anything Goes

I was playing around with a MS all over the page  die and came up with this border.  Not being one to waste paper or time, I decided to turn it into a card.  I used this cute Penny Black Hedige and the Impression Obsession stamp to go along with the little lady bug mail carrier in the PB stamp.  The white and black cardstock are from Recollections.  The green was a scrap from my stash, unknown origin.  I colored the image with Copics.

I am entering it in Through The Craftroom Door, Challenge 44 and Tuesday Alchemy, #40 challenges.  Both are Anything Goes.

OWH Stars and Stripes #146

I have been negligent in doing challenges lately.  I am going to try harder to get at least one done each day.  This challenge was posted on the Stars and Stamps blog on Operation Write Home on Sunday.  I am kind of tired of making Christmas cards, so I thought I would use the Christmas paper from SU's Candlelight Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper, which I don't think looks like Christmas paper, and do this card.  The stamp is from a Tim Holtz collection.

Merry Monday #41

I love this sketch on Merry Monday this week.  I am going to use it for other cards.   I used Stampin' UP! Candlelight Christmas Specialty Paper for the dp in this card.  The white and red are Recollections.  I punched the hearts with my ancient Creative Memories heart punch and embossed it with Stamp n Stuff Red Tinsel embossing powder.  The sentiment die cut was from Stampin' UP! also and stamped with Hero Arts.

The Outlawz Color Challenge 11/13

I chose the colors for this challenge then had a hard time deciding what I wanted to do.  Go figure.  I used a tutorial from Splitcoast Stampers for the Eggshell Mosaic Background.  I had to make a couple tries before I got the hang of it, and I am still not totally happy with it.  I had the card all finished and posted and then decided I didn't like what I had done.  I redid it and like it much better.

Kneeling Santa

The challenge for the first week of the month at Crafting by Designs is:   It is the first Friday of a new month and that means it is a Copic Coloring Challenge! Your challenge this month is to get down to business and make a Holiday Card! Bonus Challenge...use a stamp that you haven't used yet this year (or a brand new one.)

No problem.  I bought this kneeling Santa from Our Daily Bread Designs during the summer to use for my Christmas cards.  Ever since the first time I saw this picture, I  have been wanting to do something with it.  So when I saw the stamp, I knew what I wanted to do.  I used a whole bunch of Copics to color it.  My marker that I usually use for white ran dry so I had to use a little darker C series color than I would have liked.  I will wait to get the marker refilled before I finish my cards.  I put Pearl Pen Ice White on Santa's fur trim.

I used a Cuttlebug folder to emboss the white layer, then adhered that layer with foam tape.  The ribbon is from a spool I got last year to finish up some cards.  The sentiment stamp is from Judith.  I bought it at a stamp expo last year and have never used it.  So, both my stamps qualify this card for the challenge.

The Outlawz Color Challenge 11-6

Teresa chose this great picture of her father for this week's challenge. It was black and white and she wanted to use it for the color challenge. Guylou took the colors Teresa said and colorized the image.
I had a really hard time trying to come up with something for this one.  The colors just didn't seem to want to go together for me.  Then, the vintage twist added more frustration.  I finally decided to take one of my own pictures from when I was four years old and use it for the basis of the card.  I had this fabulous sack from the shop hop that was totally vintage in looks and was close to the right tan.  I adhered it to a piece of darker brown (it doesn't look like it in the picture, but it is darker than the bag).  I distressed the edges of the green strip with the Tim Holtz distressing tool.  for the ovals, I used Spellbinder dies.  I sponged my picture with Tim Holtz Vintage Photo distressing ink.  The leaves came from a pack of fall leaves by Recollections that I bought last week at Michaels. The button is from Stampin' Up neutrals and the little string is from Hemptique.

Lady Anne's Challenges 11-4

The challenge on Lady Anne's Challenges for October 17 to November 14 is Anything Goes but use a stamped image, either rubber stamp or a digi.  I used this digi from DigiStamps4Joy.  I colored it with Copics, then embossed it with the brick embossing folder.  I then popped the embossed piece with foam tape. The butterfly is a MS cut.  The sentiment die is from SU and I stamped it with a Hero Arts stamp.  I also popped the sentiment.

ODBD for November and MWDT for OWH

I made a bunch of these cards for my own personal use last Valentine's Day.  I am making more to send to OWH for this coming Valentine's Day.  I  have made them the same way except for this year's cards, I am adding the "I Love You" sentiment. The challenge for ODBD is to dust off a rarely used tool.  I have had this stamp for a long time, and only used it once last year.  I think that qualifies as "rarely used."

I am also entering it as the MWTD for OWH.

Today's Entries

I am entering this card in four challenges today.  All the challenges are "Anything Goes" challenges.  I found this Stampendous stamp on sale the other day.  It reminds me of Scout and Sissy.  I colored it with Copics and even put a little rust color in because they both have a little rusty color in their fur.  The fur on the Santa hat and the pompon are done with Pearl Pen.  The jingle bell is Liquid Pearl.  I punched the pine bough with a MS punch and added a little star bling.  The sentiment banner is stamped with Recollections Winter Wonderland set.  I fussy cut around the banner.

Challenges entered:

Avadares November

The challenge for this month at Avadares is Christmas.  Sara provided us with this cute candle and fairy for the challenge.  After I colored the digi with Copics, I fussy cut it somewhat following the lines of the image.  I then mounted it on red cardstock and again fussy cut it.  I pulled papers from my scrap stash.  The flower is from a Bo Bunny (I think) collection from a couple years ago.  The sentiment from Kaisercraft is stamped on a Spellbinders banner die cut.  Both the image and sentiment are popped with foam tape.
